Give Old Furniture a Facelift

Repurposing a side table!

I am a big believer in making the most out of things I have, rather than spend money on new furniture. Today I am going to show you step-by-step on how I repurposed a side table and added it to our home decor.

Supplies:

  • Contact Paper - Get it on Amazon
  • Scissors
  • Exacto Knife
  • Something to flatten the contact paper (Credit Card)

Fun Fact

I originally got the idea from my old roommate in college. Yes, I have had this table for that long.

Step 1

Wipe down the surface and sides. Yes, it was not cute to look at.

Step 2

Before you pull off the contact paper guarding the sticky parts, you want to measure it out. I simply started at one corner and made sure to leave a little on both ends. After I got the right length, I cut the piece I needed from the roll (It makes it a whole lot easier to handle).

Step 3

Using my card, I started to smooth out the surface and trying my best not to create air bubbles.

Tip: Make sure you do not pull off the entire back of the contact paper. It gets sticky, and I learned the hard way. Yes, I did have to start over.

Tip: If you do have air bubbles, you can pick the contact paper back up and try again.

Step 4

After you are happy with how the contact paper looks on the surface, the fun starts.

Tip: If you see small air bubbles, take the tip of your Exacto Knife, poke the bubble, and smooth it out.

Step 5

The last step is to take your Exacto Knife and carefully cut the excess off around the table.

Tip: This table slants on the sides, so I took the knife at an angle. The slant acted as my guide.

Bam...A Whole New Look

This table took about 30 minutes to do. It was easy and looks great in our living room. As most of you know, an apartment has its limits on functional space. This table acts as storage with the bottom shelf and a place to put our flowers. Extra...I know.
