Dancing Bears & A Bride!
TBRU 24 - The Best Little Bear-House In Texas!
PSA right of the bat...never volunteer to bartend, attend TBRU, and go to a wedding all in the same weekend. Drained is an understatement of how I am feeling right now and I am barely getting my voice back. But all-in-all it was a fantastic event.
There is always preparation that goes into TBRU when it comes to outfits that go along with the theme. This years theme was The Best Little Bear-House In Texas and the Beardance theme was Hard candy. When it comes to my group of friends, you might say that we like to be a little extra. So for Beardance, we decided to make candy themed crowns. We spent a whole night trying to create them. I think it was more fun making them because when it came to actually wear them to the dance, most of us didn't. Did it for the gram!
I was fortunate to be able to bartend again at the host hotel on Thursday night and once again it was a blast. Seeing friends from Dallas, seeing guys that I met last year, and meeting new ones made the night even better. Each night at the hotel was a different theme from the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Dallas. The first night I bartended was a cowboy theme...I had a cutoff plaid shirt and jean shorts...if you know, a cowboy get up is not my style. Friday before Beardance I had a day shift, the theme was the great rivalry football game between UT and A&M, so we had to wear the school colors. Luckily the TBRU shirt was a maroon because that would go against my religion as a Red Raider. I liked Friday because I was able to see another side of TBRU that I never did before. It was very chill and laid back. They played trivia, cards against humanity, and bingo.
After some unfortunate events, we were finally able to get ready for Beardance. We had a pre-party at my place and that is where the fashion shoots for with the crown commenced. We finally went to S4 and met up with everyone else. I like events likes these because you are able to bring a big group of people together and just have fun. In every room at S4, you ran into someone you know. The music was great, we got to see Miss Vanjie, and danced the night away.
Saturday was spent celebrating my friend's wedding and I was not able to partake in too many activities...but I did make it to the Eagle.
As you may know, Sunday is for Church...and that meant Hidden Door and Trash Disco at the Eagle, but it has finally hit me on that I am not as young as I used to be. I say this because, on my way to the Hidden Door, I saw Taco Bell and pulled right on in and drove right back home and watched the whole season 3 of Queer Eye. I do promise however that I will make it to church next year.
TBRU was and is always a great time. I hear people say that it is overrated or not worth the hype, but I say it is what you make it. I have a blast every year and at the end of each TBRU, I cannot wait for the next one.
