Motivation...can I borrow some of yours?

Here is to a New Year!

One quote comes to mind "The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over again and expecting different results" - Albert Einstein.
So I have always tried to have the "New Year, New Me" mentality. It goes great for about the first 3-months. Then slowly but surely, I find myself going back to my old ways and lose motivation.
One example of losing motivation was this blog. My original plan was to post one blog per week. I was pretty consistent with the plan, but after time it became a lot to handle. Well, not a lot to handle, but it was very time-consuming.
Another example is going to the gym. I always have this plan of getting into shape and losing my gut. Once I start seeing a tiny bit of results, I lose motivation and stop going.
I could go on and on about different examples, but I don't want to be a downer. It is a new year after all, right?!
So instead of trying to change my whole life around overnight, I have started making smaller changes and stepping outside of my comfort zone. Not going to lie, it is kind of annoying. By annoying, I mean all of those things that people say will improve your day-to-day life, actually work.
One of the main things that I have I started doing is journaling. It is almost like a catch-all of my day. In there are good things that happened, what goals do I want to accomplish for that day, and jot down anything that is on my mind in general.
I have always been the type of person that usually sits back and sees how things pan out. Usually, everything works out just fine. But I do find myself more stressed during that time. It is like a juggling game, is it going to work or not? This is one of those moments where I have realized I need to step out of my comfort zone. Big time!
I will be taking the steps necessary this year to put my best effort in achieving my goals. I can't discuss everything at the moment but in due time! But one thing I have to do is to remember it is not going to happen overnight. It will take time to reach these goals, but I am now coming to terms with being OK with that.
So I will start this new year by asking you. What are things that keep you motivated or on track to reach your goals?
Also, if you can recommend any books, podcasts, or other resources that revolve around motivation and staying on track, let me know.
